Malaysia, why just malaysia alone?
[edit]i cannot explain this right reality that the official name is just malaysia without addition like kingdom. Just in case for indonesia full name is republic of indonesia. Cmiiw.2404:8000:1027:B639:611B:CA2D:FAE0:9222 (talk) 18:59, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Wrong reference for Malaysia means Land of the Malays?
[edit]the reference page https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/malaysia/
din't mention that, this statement is wrong.
Malaysia was formed in 1963 with Malaya and another 3 countries (Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak) that Malay are not majority. it is not logical to have country name carry the meaning of Land of Malays. please check. Siakhooi (talk) 07:09, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
- Malaysia does mean Land of the Malays - but the "Malay" it is referring to, is an old definition of Malay, not the modern 'Malay' that everyone thinks it is, so it's not a great definition of the etymology.
- The word "Malaisie" (french) "Malaysia" (anglicised) was created in 1827 and it was meant to encompass the entire Indian archipelago including the Philippines and the Malay peninsula.
- So by "Malay" the creator of the word intended it to indicate what is now known as Western Malayo-Polynesia peoples. (minus southern Vietnam and Madagascar - those areas weren't known to be "Malay" in 1827)
- This includes MANY more groups than what the modern definition of "Malay" includes so???
- The wording in the article probably needs to change, but it will be a delicate process. MatSallehSesat (talk) 12:57, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- I suppose this whole section should be re-written.
- "Following the expedition of French navigator Jules Dumont d'Urville to Oceania in 1826, he later proposed the terms of Malaysia, Micronesia and Melanesia to the Société de Géographie in 1831, distinguishing these Pacific cultures and island groups from the existing term Polynesia. Dumont d'Urville described Malaysia as "an area commonly known as the East Indies".
- d'Urville used the name Malaysia and gave credit to its origin to René Primevère Lesson, who was on the same ship. The meeting was in 1832 not 1831.
- And to make things even more confusing - d'Urville's new definition did not include the peninsula. It was only a name for the islands. But Lesson's definition did include the peninsula, so I would suggest dropping d'Urville from the conversation entirely (even though he made a pretty map) MatSallehSesat (talk) 14:13, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- this part is also weird...
- "The state that gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1957 took the name the Federation of Malaya, chosen in preference to other potential names such as Langkasuka, after the historic kingdom located at the upper section of the Malay Peninsula in the first millennium CE. The name Malaysia was adopted in 1963 when the existing states of the Federation of Malaya"
- The Alliance political council rejected the name Langkasuka before going to London and changed the new name to Malaysia... Yes! in 1956
- But the British didn't allow the name change to happen because it wasn't in the 'terms of reference' and also because MCA preferred to keep the name Malaya.
- Seems like an intersting fact that should be included. MatSallehSesat (talk) 14:15, 10 February 2024 (UTC)

Better use spelling "Monarch" Or "Yang di-Pertuan Agong" ?
[edit]In the Infobox, it is stated that the King of Malaysia is called Yang di-Pertuan Agong, not Monarch, so would it be better to replace it with the word Monarch so that it is better?
Thank You. Baqotun0023 (talk) 03:00, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- A King is a male monarch, and given there are no Malaysian ruling Queens, King seems appropriate. CMD (talk) 03:30, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
